REFN: 2112 From a book called "A History of Isaac Howard of Foster, Rhode Island a nd HisDescendants who have Borne the Name of Howard" By Daniel Howard, A. M. WinsorLocks, Conn. 1901 Pg 20. Christopher Howard was born in 1749, about the timethat his father's fami ly moved from Coventry into Foster (then a part od Scituate), R.I. It is n ot certainly known in which town his birth occurred, but it was probab ly in Foster. He married, November 8, 1768, Penelope Westcott, daught er of Ezekiel Westcott of Scituate, R. I. In the Revolutionary War he serv ed as a militia man. A full record of his service is not preserved, but t he Town Council records of Scituate show that he was in Capt. Joseph Kimball'scompany, and because of his being unable to equip himself it was vot ed on January 13, 1777, "that he be equipped as the law directs." April 1 0, 1777, he bought of his brother Daniel fifteen and one-fourth acres of l and for forty-fivepoundslawful money. April 7, 1779, he sold this la nd to John Johnson, sonof Elisha Johnson of Scituate, for five hundred fo rty-seven pounds and tenshillings lawful money. (August 5, 1775, the la nd was bought by Daniel from hisbrother John for sixty-one dollars. See n ote following sketch of John.) The largeamount received for this land w as due to the fact that payment was madein depreciated Continental mone y, which soon became worthless in his hands, causing a total loss of his l and. He soon removed with his family to Vermont, settling on Otter Creek at or near Rutland. All subsequent history of him andhis family is los t. Diligent search has been made in Rutland and elsewhere without succes s. The town clerk of Rutland can find no record of land ownership by thef amily, and it seems probable that they did not acquire property there. Children: 1. Simeon 2. A daughter as indicated by the Rhode Island census of 1774, which sho ws Christopher Howard's family as consisting at that timeof one male a nd one female above sixteen years of age and one male and one female und er sixteen years of age. Note under sketch of John on the land: August 5, 1775, John Howard sold to his brother Daniel, for Sixty-one (6 1) Dollars, fifteen and one quarter (15 1/4) acres of land, bounded we st on a highway; south on land of Stephen Fenner; east on the grantor; nor th on Moosup River. Elnathan Howard's name appears on the deed as relinqui shing her right of dower. ----Scituate Records of Land Evidence.
