Mary BLACKMAN

  General Notes:

Mary was the first wife of Elder James Benedict. He m. second, Jemima __?__. One might think that his children, Jemima and her younger siblings were of the second wife, but I don't think so. Jemima was a Blackman family name, and was used frequently. Mary's mother and sister were named Jemima. Records of the Baptist Church in Warwick lists a Mary Benedict whom I believe to be Mary, wife of Elder James, not their daughter, Mary, as she was probably married by that time, having been born in 1741, Her name would have been Mary Grey.

"In 1761 (Mary and James Benedict) conveyed to John Whitehead, her right in the house of her father John Blackman in Green Farms..."

The D.A.R. Patriot Index says that the name of the second wife was Johanna _____.

Mary married James W. BENEDICT, son of James BENEDICT and Sarah HYATT, on 8 May 1740 in Ridgefield, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. (James W. BENEDICT was born on 19 Feb 1720 in Ridgefield, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, died on 9 Sep 1792 in Warwick, Orange, Ny and was buried in Old Baptist Burying Ground near Warwich.)
