John Plant was born in England in 1787 and Jane was born in England in 1804. Other children in the family were: James and Harriet, both born in New Jersey. John was a laborer and was in New Jersey in 1834. A James and Ann Plant lived in Kingston Township in 1850. James was a shoemaker born in Great Britain and could have been John's brother. They had six young children. According to Delaware County Naturalization Records, James Plant became a naturalized citizen on August 25, 1841 and had been born in Wales.


In 1840, Vinal and Ann Thurston lived in Berkshire Township and had one child, Charles Gilbert. Mary Elizabeth, my great grandmother was born in 1842; then Almira, born in 1844; Frances in 1847; Alice Amanda in 1849 and died in 1850; Joseph Wilson in 1851; Norton Elmore in 1854; Sarah Emma in 1858; and Phebe Ann in 1862.
Vinal and his brother, Norton, and their families built a church in the village of Eden(now Kilbourne). O. D. Hough and Charles Neil helped on the project for the Baptists and Methodists in 1849.


The Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, reports that Vinal, Mary Jane, and Phebe Thurston were received by request into the Alum Creek Friends Church on April 17, 1879. The Sept. 8 1893 Daily Chronicle reports in the Oxford Township news that a prohibition meeting was held on Thursday, September 14, 1893 at 1 p.m. at Thurston's Grove. A good program was prepared and a good time enjoyed by all.

Vinal died February 23, 1897 at the age of seventy seven. He is buried at the Alum Creek Friends Cemetery at Quakertown, Peru Township, Morrow County. In 1901, Mary Jane Thurston owned twenty acres of land in Bennington Township in Morrow County. She died March 28, 1902 at the age of eighty one. She is buried in Alum Creek Cemetery. Both Vinal and Mary's deaths are listed in the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy.
