SHEETS David L. Sheets, age 70, of Cardington and a former Columbus resident, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, peacefully at his home. He was born December 5, 1940 in Columbus to the late Lowell V. Sheets and Ruth J. (Smeltzer) Sheets-Orr. David was a 1960 graduate of Hilliard High School and then Columbus State University and Franklin University. He then honorably served in the U.S. Army. David was a firefighter with the Columbus City Division of Fire where he retired as a Lieutenant after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Columbus Firefighters Union Local # 67. On October 17, 1964 in Columbus, David married the former Bea Riley and she survives in Cardington. He is also survived by his children, Janie (Karl) Reed and their children, Lesley, Heidi, and Keian Reed, Cardington, Amy Sheets, Delaware, and Susan (Sam) Howlett and their children, Ashley and Andrew Howlett, Tampa, FL.; sister, Elizabeth (Harold) Brown, Hilliard; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brothers Ronald and Donald Sheets. Friends may call Wednesday, June 15, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at the Sheets home 2047 State Route 529 Cardington. A graveside funeral service will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. with full military honors. Memorial contributions in memory of David Sheets may be made to the Columbus Firefighters Charitable Foundation, 379 W. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43215.
