highlights from Obit 1. Rev. William King was born in Franklin Co., Ohio April 19, 1812. He was converted and joined Town Street Church, Columbus in 1829. He was licensed to preach in 1838 and ordained as a local deacon in Sept, 1847, by Bishop James. He morved to Morrow Co., in 1853. He enlisted in the late war as a private in Co. F. 81 OVI. He served for 18 months when he was commissioned as chaplain of the 110th reg. where he served for 2 years. For some time past he resided in South Woodbury, having the contract of carrying the daily mail from Ashley to Olive Green. Nov. 21st he left home at 7.AM seemingly as well as usual, and about 9 was found unconscience in his buggy, onehalf milebeyond Pagetown, where he had stopped for the changing of the mail. He was taken with all possible haste to the office of Dr. Foster at Olive Green, where all was done for him that medical skill could do, but he died the following morning.
Death was sudden and unexpected as he was carrying the daily mail from Ashley to Olive Green. On Monday morning, Nov. 21st, he left Woodbury at 7 a.m. as usual with the mail for Marengo, Pagetown and Olive Green, feeling, as he remarked, unusually well, and seemed very cheerful and happy looking forward up on his labors with pleasure. He stopped a Pagetown while the mail was being changed, about 9 a.m., and was, for aught anyone knows, feeling perfectly well. He went on after the mail was changed about a half mile, and was found sitting in his buggy speechless with the horse turned up to the f???co. A gentleman, whose name we did not learn, got into the buggy with him and took him and the mail to Olive Green. Mr. King was taken into the office of Dr. Foster, and received medical treatment, but it was beyond the power of man to restore him -- his work was done, he had finished his course, he had fought the good fight and was full prepared, as he had previously testified, to enter into that rest which remaineth for the people of God. He passed over peacefully to the other shore about midnight. He was born in Franklin Co, OH, April 19th, 1812, and was converted and joined the Town Street M. E. church, Columbus OH in 1829. He received his first license to preach in 1838 and was ordained deacon in 1857 by Bishop James. He was a devoted and faithful soldier in the army of the Lord for more than half a century, and an earnest minister of the Gospel for more than forty years. He was also true to the Government of his country, serving it nobly, bravely and faithfully for three and a half years, most of the time as chaplain. His funeral or rather his burial took place Thursday, November 24th, at 11 a.m. in the cemetery at South Woodbury.
