Patricia Jean Clay, 88, most recently living at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, passed away quietly June 15. She was born May 12, 1923 to Helen M. & John E. Smith of Dayton, Ohio. While attending OSU, she met John Albert Clay, and they married September 16, 1950. He passed away in May of 2002. She is survived by daughter Janet (Van) Cole, of Republic, OH, and son Paul (Robin) Clay, of Sunbury, OH, along with 5 grandchildren: Kenneth (Kelli) Cole of New Bern, NC, Bonnie (Tim) Pettry, of Tiffin, OH, Emily Cole of Bellevue, OH, Danny Clay of Sunbury, OH and Luke Clay also of Sunbury. She had 8 great-grandchildren. "Patty", as she was known to her friends, grew up in Dayton. During WW2, she joined the United States Marine Corps, and was stationed in San Francisco. After the war, she received her degree in Social Work at OSU, married John, and settled on the Hilltop area of Columbus to raise her family. She was very active at Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church. In later years, they retired to John's family farm near Sunbury, and attended West Berlin Presbyterian Church. Pat loved to write and had several published poems. She was an avid OSU fan, and attended as many home football games as she could.
