Cold clear day. Mr. D went to town. Mrs. Wilkens came and spent the afternoon with me. In the afternoon, the young people of our neighborhood came, Carrie, Jina and Peter Sheets, Marrie and Florence McKenzie, Jennie Carr, Tillie Malone, Mimi (sp?) Noles and Read. Bert Mallory came and staid all night. We had a g….as any time in the evening. Played several games, had music and supper. I had oysters. It was late when the young folks left. I felt tired and sleepy eyes bother me so. Traded old Billy to Stauffer for one of his horses.

journal of Elizabeth Jerusha (Mallory) Daniels of Hampton IA. Elizabeth died 4 years later of tb in Aurora NE after removing from Hampton to be near her sister in Aurora. Lizze had sons aged 2 and 4, Henry and Jasper Daniels, when she died.
