Obituary. Joseph Clark Porter was born near Dillsburg, York Co, PA, October 14th, 1806, and died at his home near Eden, March 29th, 1894, aged 87 yr 5 mo 15 da. He was married to Margaret McCurdy at the McCurdy homestead near Dillsburgh, PA, December 30, 1834. He continued to live on the farm where he was born until the spring of 1840, when he with his wife and two children he moved to Delaware Co, OH, and in the fall purchased the farm where he continued to live until his death, nearly 54 yrs. After coming to Ohio, eight children more were born into this home. Of the children, Maria, James (who fell at Chichamaugua), John and Daniel, preceded their father, leaving Mrs. Porter and six children. His father, William Porter, was a Scotch- Irish emigrant from the north of Ireland and that Joseph Clark was the youngest of eleven children, and last of them in his decease. He belonged to a Presbyterian family and when about 23 yrs old he united with the Presbyterian church at Dillsburgh. On coming to Ohio he and his wife united with the Brown Presbyterian church at Eden. He was elected an Elder of that church. The funeral was Saturday conducted by Rev. W. E. Thomas of Marion and Rev. A. C. Crist of Ostrander. Joseph married Margaret McCURDY, daughter of John McCURDY and Maria L., on 30 Dec 1834 in , York, Pennsylvania 169.,170 (Margaret McCURDY was born on 29 Sep 1813 in Pennsylvania, died on 25 Mar 1898 in Kilbourne, Brown, Delaware, Ohio and was buried in Old Eden Cem., Kilbourne, Brown, Delaware, Ohio.) |
