He was controller of the house of Henry, Earl of Derby.
The funeral certificate of "John Bruen of Bruen Stableford, in the countyof Chester, Esquier, departed this mortall life the 18 January 1625 [-6],at his hall of Bruen Stableford, and was buried in Tarvin Church, in thecounty aforsayd" states he married 3 wives. The sayd defunct married tohis 2 wife, Anne, daughter to William Fox of Rodes, in the county ofLancaster [The Record Society of London, Volume VI, pages 50,51].
The will of William Foxe of the Rhodes, made 7 December 38 Elizabeth[1595], named his wife Margaret; the "erle of Derbie my lord and Mr;"sons John, William, Thomas, and Richard; daughters Anne Foxe andMargarett Fox; the wife of John Fox, and his son William; and Mr. Warrenof Poynton. [Chetham Society, 54: 113.]
