Lucy Clay lived with John Doty and Nicy (1860,1870 census) and to the best of my knowledge did not remarry. She outlived her daughter by seven years. from Doty History by Effie James Russell & Judy Mosher Ebersole date unknown.(located at the Morrow County Library Genealogical Annex) "John first married Nicy Clay and during her lifetime they lived in South Woodbury where Rev. History of Morrow County page 894. John Doty, grandson of John and Elizabeth(Grove) Gardner and a son of Steven and Nancy (Gardner) Doty, was enrolled June 2, 1862, at South Woodbury, this county, and was mustered into service to take effect the same day as a private of Company C 85th Ohio Infantry Volunteers, to serve three months. He was appointed sergeant, September 23d, 1862, at Camp Chase, Ohio. He enlisted the second time, August 5, 1864 at Columbus,Ohio and was mustered into service the same day as a private of Company I, 88th Ohio Infantry Volunteers, to serve one year. He was mustered out with the company as a private, June 3,1865, at Camp Chase, Ohio, having served an aggregate of one year, one month, and nineteen days.
John Doty remarried (1880 census) to Roxie Powers who was much younger then himself and took up several business ventures as wagonmaker, mill operator , and built a house in Ashley. I have also dicovered after talking to Ruth 'Benidict' Hare who is related to the Benidicts from Woodbury, that Bertha Doty never married and Della Doty married Frank Osborn and was a dress maker, Mary Artie Doty married Daniel Henry Wolff and lived in the area.. Della taught Mrs. Hare's elder sister (90 in 1989) how to sew.
