OBIT: from the "Independent", published Cardington, Ohio, 19 May 1927. found by Judy Mosher Ebersole Tribute to Former Resident who passed away in California. The many friends of Mrs. Emma Bunker Neal will be grieved to learn of her departure from this life on April 26, at her home with her dau. in San Francisco, Calif. Her illness was hardly an hour's duration. Mrs. Neal was the daughter of Rueben and Lucretia Bunker, and was born near Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio in 1854. In early womanhood she married Ansyl W. Doty, also of Ohio , with whom she spent four happy years. After his death she, with her two small children, Harley and Frances, made her home with her sister Mrs. Elmora Conklin in Cardington, where both sisters were well known and beloved teachers in the public schools for a number of years. In 1899 she became the wife of Edgar E. Neal, who at the tie was the editor of the "Cardington Independent". Later the family moved to Mt. Gilead where they made their home for many years, and where Mr. Neal passed away a few years ago. Mrs. Neal was active and enthusiastic worker in the Eastern Star, becoming a past worthy matron. She was also a past noble grand of the Rebekas, and a member of Sotesis club of Mt. Gilead. In all of these organizations she was beloved for her sunny nature and helpful activity. all of which was attested by loving demonstrations upon her departure from Mt. Gilead a little less than a year ago when she left to make her home in the west. Mrs. Neal is survived by her three children: Harley A. Doty of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Frances Hullen of San Fetando, California; and Kelsey Neal of Columbus,Ohio. Six grandchildren live to call her blessed. They are Robert Osborn, Theota Elizabeth and John Gardner Doty of Los Angeles, and Mary Elmora, Elizabeth Adels, and William Kelsey Neal of Columbus. The best of mothers, devoted to her children and grandchildren and early loved by relatives and friends, she is one of those who live in winds and hearts of friends made better for her presence. As a great writer has expressed it, she is one who makes "undying music in the world". She was very happy in her new home and her swet and gentle ways were already attracting to a large circle of friends, as was shown by the number gathered to pay her tribute at the services held on Friday, April 29, at the "Lovely Church of the Flowers", in Glendale, California.
