Notes for ISAIAH DOTY: [doughty.FBK.FTW]
Isaiah served in the Civil War in Co..,B, 37th Inf. He was a drummer and also made drums. We have one of his drums from the Civil War. bonnie Lou Adams now holds this instrument, along with the drumsticks which are made of Ebony wood. Isaiah's great-grandfather, Stephen was also a drummer in the Revolutionary War. He served for three years and was mustered out with his company on July 27, 1865. He had brown hair, was 5'9" and had a dark complexion. It is thought that Ellen Fox had a lot of Indian ancestry and the features on her descendants show that this could be true. After the war, Isaiah ran a ranch and dairy on Doty island. he made cheese. The following articles from the Berlin newspaper, are about the process that he invented, that allowed him to make small round cheeses for the families he sold to. Isaiah owned about 1900 acres around the white river, but the family farm has burned, after which the family moved into Berlin. The last child of Isaiah Doty "Amy" killed herself and left all of the family property/including her brother, Wesley's, to her friend, cousin, and neighbor a Miss Shepard. Wesley's daughter, our grandmother was only a teenager at the time and did not know to contest the will.[doughty.FTW]
