Edward THURSTON

Edward Thurston,3, (Samuel 2, Edward 1), eldest son of Samuel and Abigail (Clarke) Thurston of Newport, R.I.; born there May 26, 1696;married, May 9, 1723, Elizabeth Norton, daughter of Benjamin and Avis Norton. He was a cooper in Newport, died Feb. 22, 1776, she died April 1783, aged 76.

Edward Thurston Jr., of Newport. Married Elizabeth, daughter of Benjamin and Avis Norton, May 9, 1723. His death is thus noticed on the record of the society of Friends; "Edward Thurston died February 22, 1776, in his eighth year. Recorder and keeper of these records divers years. Yet, nevertheless, for not following the advice of Friends, respecting the manumitting his slaves, was set aside from being a member of the Society, several years before his death. However, at the earnest request of his widow, the present recorder hath presumed to record his death, although, in the strictist sense, he might not have done it." His widow died in April, 1783, aged 76 years. Her will was dated November 6, 1781, and proved May 5, 1782.
