Benjamin LANCASTER
Benjamin Lancaster, son of Aaron and Sarah, was born July 21, 1781. He was a shoemaker, having learn ed the trade from his brother,in,law, Elijah Cone. He married Hannah Knowles, about 1799. He enlisted as a soldier in the War of 1812, and after the war he removed with his family to northeastern Ohio. About 1822, he settled in central Ohio, and purchased a tract of unimproved land near the Alum Creek Settlement, where he worked at his trade, clearing the land as he found leisure from the bench. In later life, he sold the farm and resided in Michigan about four years, with his children; then went to Oregon (now Washington) and resided with his son, at Vancouver, where he died about 1866. Benjamin and Hannah Lancaster were the parents of fourteen children. Their descendants are widely scattered and a complete record is not obtainable. Benjamin married Hannah KNOWLES in 1799. (Hannah KNOWLES was born in 1785 in New Melford, CT and died in 1866 in Michigan?.) |
