General Notes:
BIOGRAPHY: Otho Glenn Clay ,who went by the name Glenn, was Norton and Ora Belle Clay's eldest son. He grew up at the farm and attended school in Brown township. He was a tool and die maker . He worked for awhile at the Cooks motor Co.. Glenn was married to Darlene Duckworth on July 14,1910. This was during the period Glenn took an interest in photography. There are many pictures of Darlene and other relatives during these years. Darlene died of tuberculosis on September 29,1911 and is buried at Greenmound Cemetery in Kilbourne. Glenn married his second wife,Frances Marie Hutchisson on May 4, 1914, at Grace M.E. Church in Delaware, by Rev. Rush. They had Mary Belle Clay on August 9,1915 in Middletown,Ohio. They later lost two children (daughter, Sept.2,1919 ;Alice Catherine Clay & son, June 9,1923; Morris Norton Clay), who died at birth and are buried at Greenmound Cemetery. Glenn and Francis often visited relatives in Harlingan, Texas. My father, John went with them in 1939. This was the same year their daughter Mary Belle Clay ,who had suffered with water on the brain died,on July 25, 1939 , at Harlingan,Texas. She was cremated in San Antonio Tx. and later buried with Frances at Greenmound Cemetery. During the 1950's Glenn traced the,Sheets,Longwell,Thurston and Clay family lines. This is the foundation for my work which is still continues today. The final print of the genealogies was in 1959. This was the year Francis died, on March 10. On January 11 ,1961 Glenn married an old friend from his childhood, who had been widowed, Helen Humes Jumper. They lived at her residence on Jumper Road. Helen died, and Glenn followed on December 2, 1969 at the age of 79. In the past years making contact with other distant family members, Glenn's tracings have often been used by these people. Copies have of his tracings have surfaced in Library's as far as San Franciso, Cal. and through out mid- America. This is a great tribute to the man, who left this world , without a living child to testify his work. I remember Glenn as a soft spoken man who would walk with me in the woods at the farm and tell me stories that I have long forgotten. My last recollection of Glenn was in 1969 we visited him at the Berkshire Nursing Home. My parents , sister and I sat out front on a porch and Glenn stared into the east, not confirming our presences. Glenn died a short time after. Thirty years later, in Glenn's shed behind the house on Howard Rd. we found several boxes which included many of the pictures in this history . If I could only have shared, with him my findings, and his with me.
